I just bought some filter floss for my AC 110 filters. I have the problem of keeping it in the filter, so now I have the carbon in one and the biomax in the other on top of it to keep it down.

In you AC filters where do you put the filter floss? Underneath the sponge, last, etc?

By the way, I can't believe how fast it polished my tank. :headbang2

In my AC110 on the bottom I have the large sponge, then blue filter batting then floss on top. I put 3 small stones on top to keep it place.

That's a good idea? What do you think of cutting the bottom sponge a little so there is more room for more biomax or other biological medium?

I use the stock sponge on the bottom for large particles, the white felt pad for fine water polishing...

....then the stock ceramic rings for beneficial bacteria. Forget buying carbon and all those other media, you'll just waste your money like I used to. I've used my AC110s this way and you don't have to buy something new every month, just rinse and reuse.

when i had it in mine it was on the top.. i laced a few zipties across the top of it and held them in place with the basket...

I don't run bio material in my AC110 because I wave a wet/dry sump as well. I'm not sure if if cut that sponge...it has bacteria growing on it. Remember to rinse the sponges in a bucket of old tank water. Rinsing under tap water kills beneficial bacteria.

I sandwich it between the sponge and the ceramic rings. I agree about the water polishing, it works great! I stuffed my Emp 400 full of the water polishing goodness, in addition to running it in my AC.

All i keep in my AC110 is the included Sponge and double the Bio Max. I have a powerhead with a quickfilter attachment filled with polyfill for polishing.

All u need is the sponge for mechanical. It does a really good job with large and small particles ur water will be crystal clear te rest just fill it up with bio media and ur good to go
