Hi All,
I'm thinking of getting a 6x2x2 to keep Sarotoga & maybe a few Peacock bass and plecos. What would be a good filter for me to get. Needs to be under $250 Any ideas?

Is this the sort of this your wanting to do?

There are more like this, (really good ideas) if you want to search a little in here :D.

If your still in the "Getting the tank" phase I suggest an internal trickle (overflow) filter or perhaps an overhead trickle filter. I have a 12footx2footx2 foot tank with 6 inches at one end dedicated to an internal overflow/trickle. Water flows over the false end into the trickle filter and I pump it back out with a powerhead to the other end. It is totally silent as the return is underwater. You simply need an internal false wall to height of desired water level and a spreader trickle tray.

Alternatively Overhead Trickle Filter will do the trick. With a saratoga you may want to have water level a little low since they do jump and like to surface scan for prey.

i am building a diy wet/dry for my tank that is 7 by 3 by 3, along with a fluval fx5 for now, may add more when the fish get bigger
