whats a good filter for a 10g with sand? i have a pengiun running on there for 2 days now and the impeller is already starting to chatter. cant run a can because its on a mantle so i need either a hob or an internal. maybe a corner or sponge?

I use homemade sponge filters, made from film canisters for my 1-5gs, and old fish food containers for 5-10g. You may also wanna get a "mini-canister" filter. I believe there's one on Dr Foster & Smith. There's also alot of mini-HOB filters. Try checking for replacement filters for nanos like the Picotope.

10 gallon wet/dry.. haha jk.. i donno seems like it would be hard to have a hob filter with sand in such a small tank. sand would easily get in there and cause some trouble.

I actually use a 7 gal wet/dry on my 10 gal,(it uses sand too) it's quite effective.

The easiest solution is to use a sponge filter sponge on the intake of the HOB, that will prevent the sand from getting into the pump while adding to the filtering surface area.

If you put a pre-filter sponge over your intake... you should be good-to-go...

I put these on all my aqauclear intakes and they keep the sand out...
