I have a 7 foot by 3 foot 3 by 3 foot tank, and was thinkin of going with a fluval fx5 to start with and then in a while when the fish get larger add like an eheim of some sort any suggestions???? If it helps i am going with sand substrate, no live plants, and a few rays and other larger fish like aro's and others (also looking for suggestions on stocking)

the problem is there is no room really for the sump tank, althought the tank is plumbed with 2 inch pvc intake and returns from the pool filter that was in it

yeah i am building a sump and i am just gunna put it behind the tank, then i am gunna get the fx5

Since he is already running an FX5 a 2078 would be a waste, but a 2080 would be a good counterpart filter for an FX5.

Howdy,

For that size tank you will need more than a single FX5. Just for biofiltration, I recommend you get one of the two big Eheims (2260 or 2262).

The FX5 could be used to circulate the water better. At 7ft, you need more than one canister, regardless of fish density.
