What filters do you guys use for planted tanks? I heard not to use HOBs because plants don't like water movement. I have a HOB now will there be any problems? Because Im starting a 30gal planted tank.
Here is a pic of my 30 with 2 HOB.
The only reason I know not to use HOB in planted tanks is if you are injecting CO2. The gas exchange puts too much oxygen in the tank, and cancels out the CO2.

Yup, if you are using CO2 then don't use a HOB... you'll need to use a canister. Also, it's very beneficial to have a some water movement, just not near the surface because that will deplete CO2 levels.
Hmmm... I don't subscribe to the "no splashy to the co2 injected tanky thingy" idea. Granted i don't use hob's(but my son does) but I always have my lily pipe/outflow splashing and my co2 is just fine. I use a drop checker ( and my fish gasping) to see what my co2 saturation is at. HOB is will be ok. You might just have to add another bottle of DIY there.
And oh yah, plants do like water movement. How else will they get ferts equally rationed around the tank?
