Would this be okay?

I had an old power head lying around, and needed filtration for a 20 gallon. I cut open a small opening in one of my mechanical filters (sponge from AC50) and added it to the filter portion of the power head. The nitrate levels are at healthy levels, and seem to sustain well. This should be okay in the long run? OR should I invest in an actual filter?

I gave this power head filter, heater, 25 gallon tank, gravel, driftwood, plants (sword, water sprite, elodea) a few mollies and a betta to my friend, along with minimal lighting.

I had mollies for hair algae problems I had with my 20 gal tank, and wanted to breed em for fun. Do you guys have any suggestions for my friend's tank?

I was thinking of several dwarf puffers, but at the same time this is his first tank. What would you recommend? Angels, corys, tetra, dwarf gourami, dwarf cichlids... what would ya recommend?

Gracias

I'll just sit back and enjoy the suggestions:popcorn:

Patience, you have to give it more than 5 minutes, some of us are slow translators :D.

Get a real HOB for the long run, stay away from dwarf puffers, get a small herd of tetras they're enough action and easy to keep.

Don't forget to post some pix of your work.

Thanks, Doc.

Can I ask why you recommend staying away from dwarf puffers (DP)?

A little too much work for a :newbie:.

Very aggressive and each one needs about 5g of space if kept in multiples. If you were to get a very dominate male he may make the whole tank his domain and constantly attack the others. You will also need dense plantings & caves/hiding places. they won't stop fighting as long as they can see each other. They need a very fine sand substrate due to their delicate skin, other substrate will damage them. They generally only eat live foods too.

Nice and very interesting fish but you have to research and be prepared for their upkeep.

Dr- he waited a whole SIX minutes- one more than your five!

albirdy, there is a link in the DIY forum for a filter. It was posted by midnight. He uses a pump in his, but I'm sure you can make it work with a powerhead as well. If you can't figure out how to change it, I can dig up a few links from my bookmarked links that explain it
