I did a water change today and decided to clean the AC20 in tank water and when I took everything it was saturated in a brownish algea.

Is this normal? I mean I don't have any algea whatsoever on in the tank.

The intake stem and the sponges were the worst the sponges were clogged with algea.

I have cleaned it about 2 weeks ago and had none. The only difference is that I have been treating my fish for ich and removed the carbon from the filter and have been using quickcure, melafix, and salt along with increased water temp.

The tank is not exposed to direct sunlight.

I just want to know if this is normal for a filter to get packed with algea.

anybody?

Alot of detritus is/looks brown so it could just be that your filters are working properly and there is no problem.

Okay sweet thanks for the reply.

Have seen this called mulm, brownish sludge.
Definition: Mulm is the undecomposed fish wastes and other solid matter that accumulates in the aquarium as a fine, brownish, fluffy material requiring periodic removal by siphoning

I had that in my intake and outake hoses too, it was harmless but I completely cleaned out my hoses, it seemed to have no effect on the tank, before and after the cleaning

It was not in the gravel or the tank or anything else but the filter.

(just stay away from the AC 110s; you don't wanna clean those :D)
