filter inlet and outlet IDEAL placement

you guys give some good info on this forum, so I have another question for you. IDEALLY how do you want the placement in a barebottom tank? Right now the suction is sitting right on the bottom of the tank in the middle. The outlet is near the top of the water at one end shooting straight across the tank. Seems the outlet causes more agitation on top and actually at the bottom too. I think the deeper it goes in the water the less current in the tank. I could be wrong. Wondering if anyone else ever researched this. Thanks.

i have mine shoot across the top of the water returning along the bare bottom back to the beginning to the bottom intake

I have my spray bar on the bottom facing downward at an angle so that nothing settles on the bottom.
