filter is grinding

like the title says i have a marineland penguin hob filter and all of a sudden it just started making this grinding sound. i dont know what to do or even if it can be fixed. any info would help thanks. (ps. idk if this is the right forum for this Q.)

mine does that if there is not enough water in the tank, try adding more water

I'm guessing you have sand in your tank. When the fish stir up the sand it gets sucked up into the filter. I have a couple that do the same. Just take off the filter and let water run threw it in the sink. Then just let it drain for a few hours, upside down.

suprisingly enough i dont have sand in this one its the only one without it, and its never had sand in it.

i did a water change and filled the tank to like a half inch under the rim and cleaned the filter from top to bottom and its still making the noise.
