Hi,
My Eheim classic 2217 is making a grinding noise. The water seems to be flowing properly, and doesnt appear to be any air in the lines anymore. Occasionally it will go away(sometimes if i tap it etc too), but then it comes back. Before I start over ahain was wondering if any1 knew a quick fix as I dont have a prime button, so I tend to have trouble getting it to flow 100% again. Too scared to suck the water into my mouth I think :P

The filter media goes as follows:
Those noodle ring bio things.
Sponge
More noodles
Smaller sponge

Help appreciated.

Do you have sand as the substrate? Because sand could have been sucked into the filter and that would be causing the noise.

Clean the impeller, its the only moving part which makes it the only part that can grind something

Substrate is gravel, although I was a bit slack on the cleaning of it(just moved house, set up again from scratch). I'll give the above idea a shot, may as well clean filter again whilst it's out. Sigh.. Lol

While cleaning it inpect the in peller for wear and or damage also it will save you from having to opening it back up if cleaning it doesn't work cause ill have already checked it.

so how do you prime it? if you never did and ran it dry hoping for it to prime itself you might have messed it up? dunno

Well I fill up the intake as far as I can then put my thumb over it trying to keep it as full as possible whilst placing it in the water, then turn it on and hope that its full enough that it just starts to flow. 9 times out of 10 there will be air in there and usually in about half hour it will be pushed out. Sometimes not, so do the same thing again.
