Filter Material Above or Below Drip Tray?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use two layers. Course on top fine on the bottom, but still in the tray. Big stuff gets stuck in the first layer and finer stuff gets stuck on the second. It hasn't clogged yet but I also clean it regularly.

Which order is most efficient in a wet/dry filter? I was told if the filter material was above the drip tray, debris would eventually begin to block the holes. Thoughts?

If the filter is on top of the drip plate it catches the debris before it clogs the holes. If the filter material is below you have to space the drip plate away from the filter material or it will clog the holes.

Either way you do it, just make sure you filter before the bio-material.
