Filter media advice

ok i have a 140 gallon tank with a fluval fx5 with the top two trays of carbon and the bottom macaroni... but my dad gave me a free fluval 403 canister filter what type of media should i use for this?? ex. ammo chips... carbon... biological

open to any suggestions

leave out the carbon and fill the top tray with filter wool and then media like ceramic rings or so

Use carbon in a smaller backup filter... Canisters require less often maintenance and the need to replace Carbon regularly will cause a lot of trips to the supposedly undisturbed canister...
