How often are you supposed to change filter media? I have a eheim proII running for a little more than half year now, and 2 ac 110s for about half year without changing any of the media. How often am I supposed to? I was thinking once a year??? and btw I don't use carbon.

thanks in advance.

what about the eheim substrate. I don't know what they are called but they look like Kix cereal to me. lol. Also how about the ammonia remover?
Ehfisubstrat pro... needs no replacing...just rinse it in aquarium water to preserve the benificial bacteria.

If it were me I would get rid of the carbon AND ammonia chips...just run the Mechanical and Biological filters...

Most stuff just needs rinising.. Pads can be rinsed several times before being replaced.. Cleaning them when dirty, or once a month is good..

I'm not sure about the Ammonia resin chips. If it is like Carbon in nature, when it become saturated, it will leech back the ammonia it removed, back into the water.
Anybody for sure on this, chime in.

Personally I do not use Ammonia removing chemicals.
