Filter Media

Would it be beneficial to put filter media like biomax in my main tank without being in the actual cannister? I need more filtration but no money for another filter.

Just add more substrate and rocks. It will be cheaper, more attractive and increase surface area for bacteria.

buy a sponge filter as cheap as buying the biomax.
