There are alot of commericials filter medias out there, like bioballs, ceramic rings, etc. Other than these commercially available medias. Can you list down your own DIY/alternative filter medias?

with a miter saw... through all of my carpentry jobs and personal projects i find that there is an awful lot of scrap material left behind after about a month or so.... anything that does not leech harmful chemicals into water can be used as media.. and its a given that the more surface area that object has the better media it is
