Filter multiple ponds

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Connect all 4 together at the top level, pump up to a centralized filter and gravity return to ponds.

We could use a little more info and/or pix to help better.

Filtration can be as simple as large sponge filters with powerheads (aeration adapters are available for these too) or a W/D. Either way, plants can play a big part of the filtration both floating and submerged. I didn't look but are water hyacinth and/or water lettuce legal for you? Anacharis & hornwart for submerged plants (these are the cheapest/best plants for filtration and your not looking for pretty here ;)). Suspend and stagger 2 double 4ft shop lights 6"-12" above the ponds. Oh, corral the floating plants to each end so light can get to the other plants.

If you have room, you could build a stand over the ponds for a W/D filter that gravity returns to the tanks.

Ahhh sorry I forgot to explain the thought process I was going through with this set up :(. I have a danner pump with a sponge on it in the left hand one that pumps water to the right hand pond. The Big light blue greenish hose on the top is filled with water which keeps the water level of the two equal (water seeks its own level) So the water gets pumped right and then equalization occurs and pushes the water back left basically. The filter is in the left because its the one with a heavier bio load/detritus. The left side one has since been turned into a sorta bog filter filled with lillies, duck weed, etc.

actually I would gravity drain to a sump then pump back to the tanks thats how I had three ponds in my basement setup one central sump. used to have a 29 gallon as a sump when it was just a 150 and 750 but had to upgrade to a 100 sump when I got the 1100 online
SO let me get this straight... you used a 100 gallon sump to filter 2000 gallons of ponds???
