So I have a 55 gal growout tank that is currently housing 15X1.5 inch red belly piranhas. I bought them At .75 inches two weeks ago so I am happy with the growth rate. My question is do I even need filtration on this tank? I do 50% water changes everyday, keep a temp of 84 degrees, and feed between 3-5 times a day. My parameters always read zero on ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. I was beggining to wonder if the tank even has a chance to produce ammonia. If not, then there would not even be any biological filtration going on, therefore no need for the filters in the first place. Right now I have 2-penguin 350s on the tank. Just a thought, would like some feedback please.

yes water is more than nitrite, nitrate, ph, and ammonia. proper filtration provides a proper homeostasis for you fish.

50% daily water changes is crazy dude..even that is your case you still need filter system to provide dissolve oxygen at least.
