What are the best filter pads for a custom sump filter? My pad box is 23" x 23". I have not been able to find anything close to this size. The best thing I can find is rolls that are 23" x 10'. Do nitrite or ammonia pads work or should I just rely on water changes and chemicals? I am the type that feels the less chemicals the better. For me and my pets.

Grainger sells rolls of air filter material that I use in my drip tray. Vl-09 Pst 1 ln Blue/White Roll, 24" x 90Ft for $68.00. That would give you 45 filters 2ft x 2ft. I don't know what everyone else uses but I use these filter. I cut 2 for my drip tray and double them up. I also have a course washable one on the bottom. They last for about 2 weeks in my 22G pushing 900GPH.
