Filter problem

I have just been given a fluval u3 internal filter and have put it in my 11 gallon axolotl tank as it didnt really have a filter. My only worry is that it may b too much filtration for a lil tank. Also it wont effect the filter efficiency if I hsve the outlets facing the corner of the tank to stop fast currents will it
