what would be the cheapest most effective filter for a 125g that has BIG cichlids. sorry i didnt kno it posted moderators plz erase this one not the other one, thanx

At BARE minimum I would do a fluval 405 or eheim 2217 canister. you can't get away with doing HOB filters only for a 125gal for cichlids as they produce a lot of waste. Cascades make fairly cheap cannister filters. You will need a lot of biological filtration, to break down the bio-load.

I had 3 AquaClear 110/500 on a 125 for 3 years with out any problems.

To the OP. A 2217 would be a great choice, I would also recommened adding a HOB.

A few combinations I hve tried over the years.
1. 3 AQ 110's worked fine needed to clean them alot
2. 2 Eheim 2217's + 1 AQ110 this worked pretty well.
3. 1 Eheim 2217 and 2 AQ110's. this is my favorite setup. Good flow good turnover. Good bio and mechanical filtration.

Cheap, effective, and big chichlids are words that do not go together.

A DIY sump would be cheapest.
