filter question

so i'm trying to set up a QT so i went out and bought a 10 gallon tank from walmart
comes with a aquatech 5-15 filter
what is the best/fastest way to colonize that filter with BB

i currently have a 72 gallon tank that is fully cycled
eheim pro3e 2076 on that

should i cut a piece of the white filter pad thats in the eheim and add it to the aquatech??

A lot of people use established bio media, I'm sure the pad would work, but the biomedia would be better IMO.

Are you going to put fish in the 10g right away?
No sense in getting a BB colony going if there are no fish to feed it.
You have everything you need in the canister for the 10g.
A scoop of substrat pro or a filter pad.
In the tank or in the filter, when you put in the fish, should work fine for you.

the aquatech filter has a bio-filter
its like a fiber mesh type pad
would it be a good idea to throw that into my canister in between the 2 substrat layers??
if so approx how long would that take to colonize?
i plan on picking up a few new fish soon and prefer to toss em in my QT so i dont end up with another ich breakout
