75 gallon cichlid tank
12-14 peacocks
20 gallons a week water change
no ammonia
no nitrite
less than 10ppm on nitrate
have 1 sponge filter
and 2 Seachem 110 tidal hob
I run carbon and purigen
also have a wave maker but dont remember which one
My question is this. Is that enough filtration for this tank, or would it be better to get a canister and get rid of the sponge filter.
if i do a canister i was looking at either the FX4 or Fluval 407, is one is easier to clean between the two

thanks

some are pretty close some are mid way there

Keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite as they grow. I personally like Seachem Ammonia Alert to show any possible toxic ammonia spikes. It's an in tank indicator and convenient to check up on each day.

What is the total GPH of your current apparatus? Shoot for 8X to 10X GPH. 20G weekly is not enough, I would do a minimum of 40G weekly on a 75G tank. The PWC percent and the amount of filtration are not related.

Tidal 110 HOB’s are 450 gallons per hour and you have 2 of them……that’s 900 gph. That’s 12 times your water load. Add in the sponge and your really cooking there.

You have a long way to go before you need more filtration in my opinion. As your fish grow, your beneficial bacteria will multiply and be able to handle the larger bio load. You might have to start doing bigger water changes at one point, but I highly doubt you'll need a bigger or more filters. Get a new filter once you upgrade that 75 to a 150 :naughty::naughty::naughty:
