Got my taxes done and am ready to spend some money :nilly: I'm looking for a filter I can use along with my Fluval 406 to filter my 150. Currently I have the 406 and some other crappy canister filter running on the tank. My requirements for the new filter are as follows:

1.Built in heater
2.Built in UV sterilizer
3.Easy to use and maintain

I don't really have a preference to what brand I buy, but it must be a brand with a good reputation. Is there a filter that will meet those three requirements? Thank you!

I recommend the Aquaclear 110. Amazing filtration w/ 500gph and great for biological filtration; much better than any bio-wheel filters IMO.
Doesn't have a built in heater but very easy to maintain and quiet. Check it out on amazon, super cheap!

Not many filters have a built in uv sterilizer, although there are plenty of filters with inline heaters. Eheim makes some good filters with inline heaters, I have the Pro ii 2026, but they make a 2226 with the heater built in, and also a 2228 (more filtration capacity) with the inline heater.

Get an Fx5. No built in heater and no built in UV. You can find those cheaper online, when they package it together they often overcharge. I got a 400watt heater for $20 online from Dr. Foster and Smith when it was on sale. Just look around.

why built in heater? just seems like you spend more. I understand the heat is spread out but if you have enough flow it shouldn't matter. In my 125g i have 3 emperor 400's and two 300w heaters and yet to have any problems. And tank is heated equal.

I was thinking I should just go with an Fx5 and get the UV separate. I already have heaters that do a good job keeping my tank warm, I was just looking at minimizing the "clutter" in my tank. What would you recommend for a UV sterilizer on a 150 gallon tank? I have a few AC 110s on my other tanks, I also have some Emperor 400s on my other tanks. I like both of those filters but am looking for a canister...

Look up the aquatop cf500 it has built in UV albeit a tad bit under powered but it allows you to use whatever media you prefer in whichever order and it keeps my 180 pristine

Why do you want a UV sterilizer?
