I am currently running a Marineland 350 Magnum canister and a Marineland 350 Bio wheel hang on on my 90 gal. Recently the hang on started being noisy and making a sort of skipping crunching sound thought maybe some sand particles got inside so I took the filter apart cleaned the impeller, box and tube. Primed it with tank water set it up to run and plugged it in at which point it started making this loud screaming noise that got louder and louder till I could unplug it when doing this it was moving no water. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what the problem might be or how I might be able to fix it. I suppose I can run on one filter for a while but it is not great and I have no money to buy a new filter anytime soon.... Thx for any help this thing really has me stumped...:irked:

I had a very similar sounding issue with my 350 bio wheel. The squeel was a result of the long thin shaft that attaches the impellor to the unit had bent slightly. I played heck getting it back to perfect. It only takes a couple of degrees out of wack before you hear this noise and a few more degrees until it won't pull.

Did you have sand in your tank? I had to clear that thing weekly to avoid noise. I hated that junk filter SOO bad that I will never give another Marineland HOB filter a chance and will stick to the Aquaclear HOB's (AC50 and up ONLY!). The smaller AC's are junk also so I might be unfair to Marineland since I started out with the baby 350, and I can't swear that their higher quality models are not decent.

Good luck, bu be careful, that shaft pin is EXTREMELY delicate!
