filter replacement help

Okay so I bought this deco kit 3 gallon aquarium off of fosterandsmith. heres a link, http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=15494

My question is the filter needs replaced but I dont want to order it if I dont have to, do you guys/ girls have any suggestions as to what I can use for a filter pad?

Is the one you have falling apart? If not just was it off in some tank water next time you do a water change.

no its gunked with crap I tried to wash it off and it didnt do anything. The water is nasty and te filter is bad

I have a 2.5g with an Azoo palm filter. They sell these junk sponge and white filters as replacements. There is a mod where people use an aqua clear 20 (? might be 30) sponge and replace it with this. You have to trim a small corner off with a razor blade but it works very well. You might try something similar and just cut a large porous sponge to fit.
