Hey everyone,

I currently have a canister filter giving me 8 X turn over an hour in my frontosa tank.

I wanted to fill this canister full of ceramic rings with a a few sponges and then add an additional filter with just sponges to clean the water.

1. Will this work?
2. What size filter will I need? If I get another 8 X turn over then it will be like. A washing machine in there? Should I get one that is 3/4 times turnover?
3. Should I then remove my wave maker?

I use an AC110 on top of my canister on my tank. I use it solely as a polishing filter.. no bio media, just a small coarse mechanical pad to first trap larger debris (about 20% of the unit), then topped with filter floss (about 60% of the unit) and micron padding to finish (about 20%). Works wonders and the fine media reduces flow enough so that it doesn't disturb the fish even though the additional flow isn't needed.

I've done this with two canisters as well, having one for bio media and coarse pads and another mainly fine filter media.. but it becomes a pain with the canisters being harder to service. With polishing media, be prepared to clean the filters more often for them to remain effective.
