i recently picked up a 220g tank and i had a question about filtration
the 2 filters i have are a eheim pro3e 2076 and a Eheim Professional Wet/Dry 2229

now for the actual question
i was gonna use the 2229 as my bio filter and my pro3e as a mech/chem
does this sound like a good idea? or should i also keep the pro3e doing mech and bio as well?

if its ok with me changing it to a mech filter what media would u recomend
and what media would u guys recomend for the 2229?

thanks in advance

I used to have a 2229 they are BIO only...they come with mech pads but your supposed to stop using them after like a month or something or they really gum up your filter and you lose a ton of flow...I personally dont like the idea of one filter doing all one type of filtration because if for some reason the 2229 crashed on you you wouldnt have biofiltration running on your tank...but your pretty much stuck with your idea anyway since you cant use mech in the 2229..good luck!

this i knew

i was asking if it was a smart idea to make the pro3e my mech filter since the 2229 will be my bio
and i was wondering what media to use in the 2229
or am i stuck having to use eheims expensive media?
and what would be some super mech media if i decided to go the mech route with the 2076?
should i fill 2 baskets with ehfimech and floss in the top basket?

No run them both with mech AND bio.
Fit the correct media to the 2078 as per the maunal.
The 2229 ONLY uses Efisubstrat pro ...no other media will work.

i've heard of people using Seachems Matrix, i've also heard of people using biomax in it

so i know it does work with other media
and as for running them both with mech and bio
the 2229 doesnt have a mech filter really
it is a bio filter
thus why i was looking into changing up whats inside the 2076

No a 2229 comes with a mech sponge on the inlet. you should run it otherwise the substratpro will clog.

Yes it comes with a sponge that u use only while the bio is seeding then u never use them again..do some research before u give advice
