I have a new 100gal that is 5ftLx 18inWx 18.5inH and I have gotten a few different answers to filtration size. First I was told to get a 125gal wet dry, but then the same guy said that it would be better to get a 200gal wet dry for this size tank to handle any filtration problems he said the bigger the better, and at another shop I was told to go with a canister set up. I already have an idea that I will be around the $400.00 range or higher.

go with the wet/dry and a canister. its not good to run just one filter in case of a failure. if you can afford it get the bigger w/d like everything else here at MFK bigger is better!

I would start with a canister filter, I like the rena xp3 but ehiem and fluval also make good canisters. Later on down the road once your tank is up and running and the fish are growing you can look into getting/building a wet/dry sump to add to your tank.

id say 2xhob filters and a good canister

two emp 400's and a fluval 405. That should be plenty mechanical and bio filtration also put pot scrubbies or bio max rings in your extra media tray on your 400's, that is if you get them, you'll get more surface area.

i would say do a fluval 405 ac110 or 2 ac70's and then add on a 30-40 gallon sumo once your stock begins to get larger

I would go with the 200 gal wet and dry filter... better to have a bigger sump to put more bio media.
