Well, I'm looking into converting my mechanical filtration over to filter socks. They will be hanging in a section at the end of my 55 gallon sump. What filter sock holder do you all recommend that I can hang on the sides of the tank?

In the 30 gal sump i used egg crate. Will snap a pic for you

Very cool, thanks. I am looking for something pretty simple and easy. I found some hang on the side holders on Amazon that I am considering but I wanted to hear some ideas here. I do love egg crate, it's so easy to work with.

Another idea i saw was using algae scrappers as holders. I never got around to trying it though

If you decide to go with the egg crate make sure the towers are wide enough so the socks can be easily removed mine are a litte snug so the edges (bottom) of the socks get snagged on the eggcrate.

I might try some egg crate. I will need to do all of this while the filter is still setup, otherwise I would just silicone in a holder with three holes. I am just tired of pulling my sponges and filter floss only to watch a bunch of the stuff sitting on top of them come off in the water before I get them out. I also have sand in my tank and it seems that some of it gets through the sponges and floss because I am seeing tiny amounts of it in other parts of my sump. I like the ease of replacing filter socks and like the idea that they will capture all of this stuff that is currently getting past my sponges and floss.

I came across this mount from BRS and it has me thinking about a two stage setup. I looks like the 4" mount sits above the 7" mount, and if I use both, I could run a course 4" sock inside a fine 7" sock for my two main drains. Then, I could use a simple single 4" sock for my emergency drain, since it rarely ever sees any flow. What do you all think of this idea?

What size socks are you planning on using ? Im using 200 micron in the smaller sump and 50 micron in the big one. The 50's clog up fast but keep the water cleaning looking
