Just built a 40B wet/dry with 2-4x14 300mircon socks. The socks can't handle the flow. Est. of 750gph, ridiculous. Its gotta be a design flaw. I think that it might be b/c they are submerged. I read where some people are mounting them 1/2 to 2/3 out of the water. Is this neccesary to get the flow problem fixed. I submerged them to make it silent. If I have to raise the socks, how do I go about quieting them down. Want to avoid the splash and whitewater torrent b/c its in our livingroom.

Pics might be helpful.

Generally you would put the socks a little bit out of the water (an inch or so) and then have the inflow submersed into the sock so that you don't get the white water rapids, AND you prevent massive bypass.

No pics but I got a video, can get pics if needed. There ia about an 1 1/2" between the water level and the top of the sock.

Well, I'm getting ready to upgrade to the 1 1/2" dual outlets, hoping it will work. If there are any other ideas out there please let me know, running out of ideas.

What material are they? If they are nylon mesh, that is probably the problem. Polypropylene (best) or polyester felt are what you want.

i find that felt clogs super fast compared to the nylon ones.

That is the opposite of my experience - what size/micron/material bags are you using?

i got a 1 micron felt bag that clogs within of day (of course ) and a 100 micron felt that will last maybe a week or 2, but something weird happened which i should note, the 100 micron felt bag was over flowing and i didnt change it for awhile cause i was being lazy and didnt want to wash it, the weirdest thing happened, it stopped clogging on it's own and has been clog free for over 3 weeks now, unless a hole some how developed that i didnt see.my theory is that somehow it "cycled" and is now breaking down waste faster than it can clog

i got a 100 micron nylon one and it has yet to clog, going on 3 and a half weeks now.
