So I was wondering can I use a pvc overflow into a 100 micron filter sock with pot scrubs as the bio media all in a Rubbermaid tub without baffles just the mechanical (sock) bio (scrubbers) and return pump?

How effective would this setup be versus a "traditional" sump with baffles?

On my 350 I'm setting up in a couple weeks I'm using a 135. I'm just going to have 4 filter socks and ceramic media, pond matrix and purigen with pothos plants in my sump. The baffles are not necessary really unless you are doing a wet/dry and even then you can do them without baffles.

Cool. I was wondering because other than directional flow I didn't see any benefits other than maybe a prefilter for the pump. Fyi I have freshwater setups. I was looking Into using matrix instead. After doing some research it seems scrubs arent good submerged. Unless I use eggcrate to create a box and put a couple rows of airstones under the submerged scrubs for aeration.
