I have my DIY 2" overflows plumbed into a 38G tank down below my show tank, Before the water flows into the tank I have a filter sock. I believe the sock is 4" Diameter and about 12" long. Problem is that every 5 days or so the water is restricted so bad that it overflows the top of the sock. I am assuming it's the Micron size that matters here.

However, my LFS has no idea what the micron size is for the sock. Any ideas on a sock that won't clog in less then a week? Or is it standard to have to swap these things out or clean them weekly?

I believe the disadvantage with filter socks is that you need to swap them out for clean ones every few days but there seem to be so many more benefits that cancel out this 10 second job.

I went down to the fabric store and purchased felt, brought it home, doubled it up, and made my own. I have about three spares. Probably not one micron, but work very well just the same.

Ok, I'll go grab like 4-5 of them and keep them on stand by. Can they be washed and re-used? How do you guys go about washing yours if so?
