The area of my sump where the filter socks will be located is hard to reach can I just build a box out of egg crate and line my overflow box to catch sediments so I dont have to have filter socks in my sump? Will this if properly maintained increase the risk of clog/ flooding? This will allow me too flow more water to the K1 and I might not even need air stones.

Although I used to use filter socks for mechanical filtration in sumps, for years, these days (the last 5 years or so) I 've been using Porrett Foam, and find it to be equally as good.
I have a panel of it stretched across the entire width, and height of the sump.

When it gets clogged, I pull out the panel, and hose it down on the lawn, or over the garden.
And I don;t work much about getting it thoroughly rinsed, because the interstitial spices are a great axe, for beneficial bacteria.
When I pull it out, the tank and sump get
I don't know that I'd say its any easier to get out than filter socks, but with my system pretty turbid, but usually clear up in a day or so.
