Hello MFK's, just finish setting up this tank and have a little problem with the socks getting clogged up so fast. They are 7" opening and 16" long in the 200 micron. The flows are from reeflo snapper hybrid then drain into the 2 of 1.5" overflow pipes. It's an 80 gallons sump/ wet dry filter for the 270 tank. Stock are 22" black aro, 8 6-8" zaire fronts, 1 9" indo, 2 5" NTT, and a 6" pleco..... Feeding on shrimps every other days. Tank only been running a week and it overflow the sock in 4 days. Also where do you guys get your socks for cheap cauze i would like to get a few for ease of clean and change them out. Are there any thing that more than 200 micron in size? Any input would be greatly app. thanks.

Lots of choices here and good prices http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/116/380/=7qcsp2 nothing larger then 200

This is where I buy mine as well.

It is not uncommon to have your socks fill up quickly. It is just a sign that they are doing the job. One thing you can try is to get a larger micron sock to stick inside of the 200 micron. This will give a 2 stage filtration in a sense. I run a 100 inside of a 50 and see solid results. If course, I don't run near the flow that you do.

what she said!! :D

filter socks will clog quickly for the first couple days until you get all that crap out of your system. once the filter sock filters out most of the particles and stabilizes with your water, it will take a little longer to clog

Thanks P, i was gonna get the 300 nylon mesh and stick it inside the 200 micron but i was looking at the 200 micron in 7"x32" long for more surface area as my next option. Unless someone could think of some way for more flow and less clog. I think i have more than 2500 out of 3600 gph with 2" intake, 1.5 output splitted in 2 1.25" for the return at 5' head and angles.... I did have to valved it down 1/4 of a turn because its almost overflow my tank!LOL

Good to hear! Maybe because of all the stuff floating around from the substrate that got transfer over. Will cross my finger...
