Filter switching.

Tank specs.
220 Gal
30 gal w/d sump with filter sock, Stacked full with scrubbies, Mag 18
Aquaclear with filter attachment
Emperor 400

Stocklist.
10" Aro
2- 5" PBass
2- 4" Silverdollars
1- 5" JD
1- 6" Motoro

Parameters.
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate > 5

I am setting up a 55 in my kitchen. I want to put 2 400's on my 55. One of the 400's isnt being used and one is on my 220.

Questions:
1.Would i have any problems removing the Emp400 from the 220 and replacing it with a currently unused xp3?
2. Can i put the used emp 400 on the uncycled 55 along with the unused and keep what BB is on the biowheels? Or will they die off?

I know as my stock in the 220 grows i will need to add more filtration

1. Should be fine. When in doubt test your water.

2. If there is no food (ammonia) for the BB it will die. If the water is declorinated and to temp it's ok to put your fish in and the cycled filter. See also answer number one.

Sorry if this is confusing.

1. Benifical Bacteria grows fast so the XP3 will full of BB quickly so yes it will be fine.

2. The BB will die. I'd start the cycling ASAP when you put the used Emperor 400 on the 55. Everyone's different with cycling I just use fish.
