When I bought my 300, I realized I had 4 canisters sitting around doing nothing. So in a moment of laziness, and have about $600 left in my budget, I decided to just buy an eheim 2262 and be done with my filtration. My filters consist of 1 Chinese made eBay filter, 3 eheim 2028, and a eheim 2262. The bio capacity is whatever 9.6 gallons of eheim subtract pro can support.

10 month later, the patched together filtration system worked quite well. My routine is to change water 30% twice a week during which I back flush the 2262. The intakes of the rest are pretty high in the water column. The result is that I never have to service any of my filters...although I will probably service the 2262 this weekend because the flow has reduced a third after 10 month, not bad for a canister.

Surprisingly not much debris inside the tank as I have never vacuumed for those 10 month. Last few shots are not trying to show off the tank, but rather the state of substrate.

Good stuff Bro, wish I had 600$ worth of filter laying around.....

Does that 2262 have a pump ontop the can?

Sand and good filtration equals no vac.

Yes, I was just too lazy to put the plastic cover on. The intake is on the bottom though so things like sand doesn't seem to affect it that much.
