I just purchased a 210 gallon complete setup from a friend. I am going to do a freshwater tank and was just making sure I have a good enough filtration system. It came with (2) Rena Filstar XP3. Its a huge jump for me in tank size I just want to do this right. 37gal<210gal

add fx5 with those two xp3 and youll be more than fine ! goodluck!

hook up a fx5 and a good wet/dry filter, i think a lot of experienced people will tell you that wet/dry filters are best for bigger tanks as the biomax capacity for wet/dry filters are unmatchable

Hello, welcome to MFK and congrats on the big tank! The guys above gave good and accurate advice...but I know the initial start up costs to get a big tank going gets pretty expensive.

The two Renas are more than sufficient to get your tank started on its cycle. In a couple of weeks, you should start looking for another decent sized canister filter (or consider a wet/dry or sump). You would definitely want more filtration once you start seriously stocking.

Good luck with the adventure!

Yea I know i need to do a whole lot more research but that FX5 costs about as much as my whole setup. Now the guy i bought this from was running a salt water setup but not with these filters. He had live rock in a tank below the main tank, if i got that from him could i make into a wet/dry sump????? minus the live rock stuff

Just make sure that if you get that sump that it has a divided section for you to put Bio balls. Cause if its just a tank and he was catching the crap with a sock then the sump is pointless and you don't want to spend money to find out you can't use it or you have to customize it and spend more money. Also there is a DIY wet/dry setup you can do yourselfwhich would be the cheapest way and works just like a regular wet/dry. GL and Congrats on your MFTANK

Got the whole setup for $500 which was 210 plus stand and top, 6' light 4 bulb system, hood, (2) xP3, and all his junk inside. I will get picss as soon as i get this hauled over into my basement. I have to clean all the salt off everything. Cant Wait:headbang2
