I am planning on getting a 220 gallon tank and stocking it with some kelberi pb and an arowana(as a grow out tank) and maybe some other fish, not sure yet but would an fx6 and an fx5 work as filteration.

I would go the sump route. So versatile and maintenance is a breeze compared to cannisters.

On the other hand.....The FX5 and FX6 will do a good job. I would add a wavemaker or two to eliminate dead spots. I run a an FX6 and FX4 on my well stocked 180 with no issues. The 3200 gallon per hour wavemaker really keeps the water moving!!

I vote for a sump too, I just thought you were dead set on cans

I would rather cans just because the a little simpler than a sump and I already have an fx6 from my 125 gallon and the 220 I want to buy comes with a fx5 but I’ll do whatever will work better
