Have a question on the Emiem Classical External Canister Filter model 2217 says it good up to 159 gallon would this be ok for my future 120. Has anyone had any problems with it or not.

You may want a power filter as well for water polishing. I just added an Emperor 400 to my 125. Now I have the Emperor and two XP3s.

I don't know about Eheim, but the XP3s don't polish the water.

but the only filters that truly polish the water are the diatom ones..

but I agree. - a canister as well as a hang on tank power filter is a good combo.

but I prefer Aquaclears for hang on tank filters - the 110 size is good for big tanks and can handle a larger bioload than a cartridge filter.

the cartridges become clogged quickly if the tank has a lot of load in it.

Howdy,

I used to run a 2217 on my 75 gal, and it could not keep up with /\/\onster poop. Go bigger. For a 120, think 2260. The 2217 wouldn't even be big enough if it was a tetra tank ... Or get four 2217 ...

Thats a good cannister filter but personally I always use more than one system. I try to keep the rated capacity of the filters on all of my tanks at a minimum of 3 times the tank capacity. On a 120 with the ehiem you mentioned I'd add an emporer 400 as suggested or a pair of AQ 110's.

I like Harley's recommendation 4 2217s! What is your stocking going to be like though? That will really dictate how much filtration you need. Also if plants are going to be present, that will affect the amount of filtration needed as well.

Stocking is going to be on the light side with a delhiez, and senegal bichir along with my tiger oscar as of now.

I stock heavy, so I would go with 2 AC110's and a small canister.
