...probably beating a dead horse, but I'm confused. The tank isn't reef ready, and overflow boxes look terrible. I want to run a canister or two. The thing is, I'm not looking to drop massive amounts on this. What are my options? I don't think a sole Eheim 2028 will be enough. I don't want to have like 3 filters either.

Does the tank allow filtration to hang on the back?

If your PetSmart is cool like mine, you could pricematch Aquaclear 110s for around $35.

What I would do is this.. Go pricematch two Aquaclear 110s, remove the carbon from them and install twice the amount of 'Bio-Max' beads. You should be able to do all this for around $100, and thats alot of bio-load. The hang on backs are easy maintenance too.

Combine that with your canister and your golden..

I guess it does depend on what kind of fish you will be keeping though!

Only fish I'm gung ho on keepin are Tigrinus and P.Motoro or P.Leopoldi. Other fish may be ST's, discus, or pbass.

Very nice. I've always been an eheim guy myself, but the aquaclears do an excellent job, for a minimal price. They are awesome. I just put an aquaclear 300 on my 72 bowfront, and it works like a charm. Looking to get 110. How do you pricematch or what do you use to compare, online store or something:?

I'm going to echo the AQ500 (or 110 or whatever the hell they're called now). Bang for the buck, they're hard to beat, in my opinion. I run mine pretty simply: pre-filter sponge over the intake (AQ200 sponge); some fluval pre-filter "noodles" on the bottom in a media bag; AQ500 sponge and lastly, purely biological media - again, in a media bag. I think I'm now using a mix of Ehfi-Lav and the Fluval/AQ500 biological media. No particular reason; just what I had on hand.

I've tried a bunch of different setups with the AQ500, and I'm not sure any one I've used is better, but this one seems to be working pretty well so far.

OK, I got the list of fish finalized for the most part. Tank dimensions are 4x2x2, just to reiterate. The fish are going to be P.Motoro or P.Leopoldi, M.Tigrinus, 1-2 D.Pulcher, maybe an Odoe pike.
