1 , 16inch arrowana
1 , 12inch id shark
any help on the filters would be appriciated thanks

A sump will probably be you best bet. Other than that, I would suggest a couple of large canister filters (FX5's or a newer model eheim).

Cant get sumps to work for me i already tried a 3 and half foot one all it did was back up or empty i couldnt get the valves to work right so dont want a sump

then get a few fx5's. Sumps will give you more gallonage, which is better for a highly stocked tank like yours. You could use a hang on fluidized bed filter (but those never work for me!) or slap on some biowheels to the returns of your canister filters for more bio filtration and oxygenation.

How did you have your sump setup? You shouldn't really have valves (possibly one after the outlet of your return pump).. A gravity fed drain and a simple return pump that's rated a little fewer gallons per hour than your overflow should work just fine. Trust me, if I can do it, you can do it.. :headbang2

A wet/dry is really the only option for me when kepping rays... Id say give the sump another shot and simply just ask your questions here to get it working properly.

Even if you go with canisters like the FX5, it really only holds 5.9 litres of media.. you'll need a few FX5s to keep up with the rays... if you must go with canisters, id go with Eheim 2262's instead of FX5's.

In the long run, the sump would be much cheaper and more effective.

I agree with these guys. Sumps would be your best option. I've always had good experience with them. How often are you doing water changes and how much?

Thanks all i do 50% water every week . My sump works for say 2 days then it drops around 3inch i dunno why, I fill it back up and it drops again in hours sick of it tbh.

This is the set up I have: Pic1 the DIY overflow, Pic2 overflow meeting the box filter, pic3 box filter out let to first bay of sump, pic4 pump in last bay of sump to return to the tank
