Sorry im new here this may be in the wrong section but I just bought a emperor 350 and 400 both for $20 and the guy used them for saltwater I believe, would it be ok if I used them in an african cichlid tank?

i think the grate that makes sure fish arent sucked up has coral growing in it or something is it still fine to just cycle it or Do I need to scrape it out?

you can as its just gonna die in your tank if its not already dead.

i assume its white stuff formerily purple stuff known as coraline algae, if so you can scrape it as i dont like the looks of white grunge on my stuff, but it shouldnt hurt anything as the bulk of it is just magnesium and calcium, probably good for the fish.
