So I had four biowheel filters on the back of my 100 gallon tank for a year or so and now have upgraded to a Rena XP3 canister filter. How long should I wait for the new filter to be established enough to run on its own? A month??

Give it at least a month. But why take off the other filters? The more filtration the better.

Pull out one biowheel a week but leave the filters in place. You can do it quicker, but why?

I agree with CichlidAddict, why even remove the others. Maybe leave two of them. If you ever need to start up a new tank for hospital or QT you will already have a filter seeded and ready for it.

I want to sell them so I'll have the money to buy a better heater for the tank since winter is coming and the temperature in my apartment fluxuates quite a bit in the winter. Right now I have two heaters that I pulled from two other tanks that I had but one was on my 55 gallon and the other was on a 30ish gallon tank, so I do think it will be enough for the cold wintery months.

I think I would leave atleast 2 of the filters on the tank. As already stated the more filtration the better.
