What are the best filters to use for my freshwater set-ups?
Right now I use Aqua Clear and Bio Wheels. I dont like the bio wheels at all. I am in the process of getting moved and setting up my new tanks and need to know which filter to buy.

I personally like the bio wheels over the aqua clears. I have used both and found that the bio wheels are all around better for bio filtration & easy changes of filter media. There are however some things about the aqua clears I like as well. But over all the bio wheels I have always been pleased with.

But use what you feel comfortable with. What size tank or tanks are you needing filters for and what fish are you planning to put in them??

i think aquaclears are the best bang for the buck,if ur goin for powerfilters. Its also easier and more beneificial then changing a cartridge every month like the rest of the power filters.

Personally, I like the Aqua Clears due to its flexibility. I've ran plenty of the bio-wheels, but I always seemed to have a problem with them (although the emp 400 was pretty good though).

But Shane's right, use what you're comfortable with. The Emperors and ACs are both good products (I stay away from the Penguins) but it does really depend on what size tank you have and your stock.

ACs are good HOB filters.

For a canister, eheim, rena, and fluval are all popular and effective.

i think canisters provide the best over all filtration. right now on my 75gallon i am running a fluval 305 with just sponges and biomax (i would have got the 405 but it wouldnt fit in my stand), also i am running 2 ac200 one has just a sponge and biomax. the other has 2 sponges and an empty place for either a polishing pad or carbon. i only run carbon occasionally. otherwise i run a fluval polishing pad. my water perams are perfect and my water is crystal clear. all in all the canister provides a lot more of bio while the HOBs are great for mechanical. you can run whatever you want and customize it as much as you want. thats whats i like about my filters.

Many good filter combinations but it depends on tank size and stock. Hard to beat a canister set for strictly for bio complimented with an AC110 to handle the mechanical waste.

I like the canister and AC combo as well. I believe it allows for good flexability in both mechanical and biological filtration. And my water parameters are always spot on.
