Hey, its been a while since i have posted so please forgive me if im using the wrong category for this question.

Im planning on starting up a planted 65G and was wondering if using an eheim 2262 on it would be overkill? if so any recommendations on what cycle rate i should be aiming for?

thanks much for your time!

Since it is a planted tank, you can get away with less... I always aim for 10 times turn over, but for a planted tank, you really want to manage flow well and gas exchange and all that jazz. I'd say 4-7 times turn over?

10x! is that what people are saying now, eek... i ran only 1 fx5 and a medium hob for two years on my 300g and have had heavy stock at times, was defo under filtered and i had a few particles floating about but wasnt un-managable!?

after my recent problems i finally bought another filter (fx6) which i was planning to do two years ago and the difference is amazing... what am i getting now? hob i would say is 500lph, fx5/6 what with media at 2000 lph each so im at 4500lph, 4.5x turnover... i cant possibly see why you would need 10x?

if so, you are saying you would run all my filtration on a 120g/450l??? lol

I think 10x is doable is flow is kept in check. I know if I keep my turnover on my 125 at about 8-10 the water is clearer but water vitals don't change.

I try to keep a 10 x turn over yes, but i don't own anything above 67 gallons. But this only applies really to 100 gallons and under. If i owned a 200-300 gallon tank i'd have a massive sump, and run maybe what 3-5 times turn over max.

i'd run 2 FX6s on a 150+ gallon tank.

i would say 1 fx6 per 150g is more than sufficient, anything more than that is a waste imo... each to their own tho bud.
