hey I was wondering if anyone here knows a good way to tell - without using only trial and error- how decoration placement affects filtration - I was looking into ways to make my setup possibly more efficient and was wondering if anybody has seen how the water flow and suction are affected by things placed in the tank - making it better or worst for your filters to get the grime out. right now i have a 75 gallon with a emperor 400 with dual bio-wheels - rated for 80 gallons and a tetra whisper 70 - rated for 70 gallons side by side. I have a fancy Goldfish who is moving out soon with a Pletco, and 2 5 inch Bowfin in there as is - im putting some shots of the tank let me know what you think and if any suggestions on how to have less 'dead spots' of filtration - i know alot of placement is really personal preference for decoration placement but would be nice to be able to lean one way or the other to keep my tank cleaner

Honestly your best way is to get a powerhead and put it low in the tank blowing across the bottom. This will stir debris up and it can more easily be gotten by the filters. You can even do one on each end of the tank.

Decor in dead spots or areas with no current will end up catching crap all day and be dirty all the time.

thanks for the input i like the powerheads what kind of flow would be appropriate for a 4 foot long 75 gallon tank

I would do either a single 600gph at one end, or two 300-350gph one at each end.

thanks for the input im going to look into some powerheads - probably lean toward 2 smaller ones than one larger - if i can find some nice ways to make them not so noticeable in the tank - if not ill go with one larger one in the wall corner
