about 3 weeks ago, i purchased a really intense red flowerhorn and placed him into my 90G. His colors turned DARK & DULL and stayed that way ever since. A few minutes ago, I placed him into my 60G and almost instantly his colors were back to the intense red!!

Setups:
- 90G filtered with (2) AC110's.
- 60G filtered with (1) AC110 and (1) sponge powered by a powerhead.

Do you guys think the Sponge filter in the 60 created better water quality hence the return in his color? i can't think of any other reason. please chime in.

it could be many different things. in this situation the stress of moving the fish around is probably what made its color changes. also could be water parameters. i dont know what the normal color of a flowerhorn is cuz i dont know much about the fish but if the tanks have been established for some time i would link it to the stress of moving the fish aroudn

Different substrate colors? The color of the tank and lighting has a lot to do with how your fish will look.

Flowerhorns usually turn black or dark from 1. dark environment (example: black gravel, dark background, low lighting) 2. Stress from tank mates or water parameters 3. Breeding can also cause its stress bars to show and the flowerhorn to turn black

correct, but stress from moving usually means the fish turns dark and produces stress bars. in this case, its the opposite.

substrate and background are identical in both tanks.

i'm including a photo of him when i first purchased him. he now looks like this again. when he was in the 90, he was almost all BLACK believe it or not.

wow, very pretty fish. im not a fan of these at all but tahts a good lookin fh

It could also be that the "ugly" tank has some stray electric current or very noisy filters...
