What would be the best way to filter 10-15 tanks that will be in a rack system? 3 shelves right on top on another with 5 tanks per shelf. Each tank is 20 gallons. I dont have a bigger tank to use as a sump/wet dry etc. But I do have access to these. these barrels are 55 gallons and are food grade. Can something be made out of these? Lids don't come off and there are 2 thread in openings on the top.

Ideas?

I would just use sponge filters. I think in a setup like that they're the best bang for the buck. I've filtered a 110 with air powered sponge filters before....they work really well.

I've never used sponge filters before. I would need one hell of an air pump to run that many tanks. Or many pumps. But I guess the benefit of doing it that way is if one tank comes down with some sickness then it is completely isolated.

But I would also need to heat all these tanks too. So maybe something more along the lines of a sump would be better I think. But I have no clue how I would set it up since all I have ever used were hob filters.

are you going to be using these as breeder tanks/fry grow out tanks? If so, Small fish hate overflows. It really wouldn't take too much of an air pump to power the sponge filters, but you're right, it's more difficult to heat them.

I see the beginnings of 4 huge 55 gallon sumps... I'm sure you can design a pretty powerful system with these. But it won't be pretty. Hope you have somewhere to hide these. Check out the setup and filtration forum.
