Ok I am making plans for buying a 125 gallon tank by next spring. I am trying to get a good cost analysis for the whole setup. So I was wondering what the best filtration setup/method would be for this. I have 2/AC110's now on my 75 gallon that I can transfer but I don't think that is enough. This will be a fresh water setup.
I am not as concerned with the price as I am for the performance and reliability of a filter. Since I have decided to build my own stand and do my own lighting I can spend more for other items.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Depends on what you are going to keep,
I have 3 ac110 on my heavy stocked yell lab tank , with the weekly water changes is does a excellent job, plus petsmart matches there online prices $39.99 ac 110

an xp3 or two with the ac110's would work well

i have an FX5, XP3 and 2 emperor 400s on my 125 but that is a little over kill

For a 125 heavy stock, with 2 ac110s, I'd personally run either an eheim 2078, 2217, or 2028. Also, the addition of 2 hydro 5 sponges, with adapting kit, on the ac110 intakes will help the system.

I have an FX5 on my 110, works great.

I like to use a combo on most of my tanks. 1 canister filter (usually magnum 350) and 1 power hang on filter (usually penguin 350b).... I over filter, but oh well, keep up with the water changes, and its all good....

I would get 3 new ac110's from petsmart 40.00 each and 2 big sponge filters leave the 2 ac110 u already have on the 75.I have never used a canister filter so i am not much help there but ac110 is the best hob filter imo and u just can't go wrong with the sponge filters u will need alot of bio media for all that dovii poo i take the ac carbon bag out and add 3 scrubbies for added bio media.
