hey everyone,

I have a 125 gallon i would like some filtration advice for
It is housing a 12" Jaguar cichlid
I currently have a Rena XL on there which is stated to be for tanks up to 265 gallons, the water is clear, but i still notice plenty of debris relatively soon after a water change
I am assuming this is because he is a messy eater, he is a rescue and is on live goldfish(trying to get him off it)
I also have an aqueon powerhead in there for circulation, the 1250 model
Thinking about adding another canister
marineland c360
Marineland c530
Eheim 2217

any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated

Just my two cents. I'd run twin filters. It makes for easier media changes, also. One per month. I run mine with a dead area in one spot. No gravel. Bare tank. This way almost all of the debris ends up in one place on the bottom and I can scoop it out daily with a fine net.

Howdy,

simply put a good size sponge on your powerhead. That'll clean it up just fine, and add bio as well.

I don't know about the other filters, but the 2217 won't cut it for your size tank, turnover is too small to have mech impact. I run one on my 40 gal and it's perfect for that.

I'd go with a sponge. Easy, fast, cheap, and IMO the very best option
